Incorrect depth readings? Sometimes, the depth readings doesn’t seem to make any sense at all and it’s quite obvious. In cases such as these, when you got a new transducer mounted on your boat and you’ve checked everything in the manual to make sure everything is done right, then it is time to look for other possible causes that account for the incorrect readings.

Make sure to double check your transducer and make sure it is pointing straight down. Sometimes they are turned or slanted off to a certain angle that can account for wrong depth readings.

It is also possible that you are on top of either a very soft bottom and the transducers signal is not getting a good return or you are on a very, very hard bottom that the transponder is getting echoes off your hull.

It could also be one of the rare cases wherein somebody is fishing near you and you are picking up their transponder’s readings.

After checking all these, try other spots if you’re still having the same problem. If you are, then have it checked by the shop you bought it from.
